A fire late Tuesday destroyed two homes in Riverbend and resulted in one person being treated for minor burns and another taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

At about 11:15 p.m., crews with the Calgary Fire Department arrived on the 2400 block of Riverstone Road S.E. to find one two-storey home completely ablaze, and a second two-storey home “mostly involved in flames.” Crews called in a second alarm and launched an aggressive defensive attack to protect nearby homes.

The fire department says both homes were destroyed by the fire and neighbouring homes were damaged.

“Four residents have been displaced by the fire, one resident received minor burns to his hand and was treated on scene by Alberta Health Services. Another resident suffering from smoke inhalation is being transported by AHS for precaution,” the fire department said in a news release.

Investigators are working to determine a cause.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Calgary Fire Department.
