EVEN ‘WEIRD AL’ WON’T GO THERE

- Chris Arnold

“Weird Al” Yankovic isn’t making any jokes about the coronavirus to the tune of The Knack’s 1979 hit My Sharona, he said on Twitter. “Yeah, no, sorry,” he said. “Not gonna do My Corona.” Fan responses were mixed, with some agreeing it would go too far and others saying it would “go viral.” “That song would be infectious!” one said. “How about COVID-19 to the tune of Come On Eileen?” another suggested.

Yankovic, 60, shown, a five-time Grammy winner known for his parodies of pop’s biggest hits, already recorded a spin on My Sharona in 1979 titled My Bologna. He later re-recorded it for his 1983 self-titled debut album.

Multiple parody videos titled My Corona released since the virus began spreading are already getting tens of thousands of views online.
