We must look beyond statistics
The reason so many are not taking COVID-19 seriously is because too many see the threat as a statistic rather than a personal tragedy. Perhaps if people imagined a loved one or themselves dying then they may follow protocols. Or just do the math. Assume 20 million Canadians get the disease over six months with a mortality rate of one per cent, and five per cent requiring hospitalization.
Now calculate those results per day, remembering that for the most vulnerable, the consequences are likely 10 times higher and our healthcare system will be crippled. Or look at Italy.
If you still don’t care, then may God help us all.
