Chev can’t meet 2020 Corvette demand
We all knew the mid-engined Chevrolet Corvette was going to be big, but we didn’t know it was going to be this big.
The eighth-generation sports car is so popular, in fact, Chevrolet is being forced to stop taking orders for first-year 2020 models because of a lack of supply.
According to a leaked email to dealerships posted on the Corvette Forum, Chevrolet will suspend dealerships’ ability to take orders for 2020 Corvette models because high demand is catching up with a lack of stock.
GM blames the problem on the six-week work-stoppage UAW strike, which allegedly set the company back so much it will not be able to fulfil all orders for 2020 Corvettes.
“Due to an overwhelming demand for the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Chevrolet has decided to stop taking sold orders after
March 18, 2020,” Chevrolet confirmed in a statement to Autoblog.
The email goes on to say potential customers will only be able to start placing orders for the 2021 Corvette starting at the end of May, a month earlier than the brand had planned.
All of this means it will be nearly impossible to find a 2020 Corvette C8 for a price even close to the original MSRP of $70,000.
Dealerships have already been marking the vehicles up exorbitant amounts, and on the used market they’re not much better. Some 3LT trim models are selling for almost $150,000.
