DOJ REVIEWS STOCK TRADES BY LAWMAKERS
The Justice Department in the United States has started to probe a series of stock transactions made by lawmakers ahead of the sharp market downturn triggered by the coronavirus pandemic, CNN reported on Sunday, citing two people familiar with the matter.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has reached out to at least one lawmaker, U.S. Republican Senator Richard Burr, pictured, seeking information about the trades, CNN reported.
“When this issue arose, Senator Burr immediately asked the Senate Ethics Committee to conduct a complete review, and he will cooperate with that review as well as any other appropriate inquiry,” said Alice Fisher, a lawyer for Burr, in an email. The Justice Department did not respond to a request for comment.
