Pair tie knot at drive-in wedding

EDMONTON An Edmonton couple is set to say their vows in the middle of a parking lot as friends and families listen in to the drive-in wedding through their car stereos.

As COVID -19 continues to limit large gatherings, Albertans have had to find creative ways to band together in holy matrimony. On Thursday Stevon Artis and Kayla Kimo will say their vows standing in front of a large, pop-up movie screen. Using themes of an ’80s-style drive-in theatre to celebrate, the pair will broadcast their vows through radio signals after their friends and families gather in a parking lot outside of the North Pointe Community Church.

“We still want to get married and we want to have fun with it,” said Artis. “Everybody can still come and have a good time. And instead of us being sad about all the stuff that got cancelled, how can we have fun with it? So we decided to just have a wedding.”

While everyone staying apart wasn’t in their original wedding plans, Artis said the couple is still very excited to have the ceremony.

“We’re just blessed and excited to pull it off,” said Artis.
