Q What animals have been infected with the virus?
A Cats (both domestic and wild) and dogs have been infected, and now Dutch authorities confirm that a worker on a mink farm has a particular strain of the minks’ virus. At the two farms where the initial outbreak occurred, 2.4 per cent of mink died in one and 1.2 per cent in the other. Cats may have transmitted the virus between the farms. Mink farming was banned in the Netherlands in 2013, but existing farms can stay operational until 2024.
