Betty awards will look different this year

- Michele Jarvie

As with virtually every other theatrical event, the annual Betty Mitchell Awards will not be on stage this year. But the organizers of the local theatre award show are drumming up ideas to recognize the best in acting, directing, and all the behind-the-scenes expertise. “We want to assure you that we still intend to recognize the productions in the 2019/2020 season, including the shows that were cancelled or postponed. What that looks like we are still not entirely sure. We will be working with our supporters, as well as members of the community to establish how we can appropriately look back on all the hard work done by Calgary theatres, actors, technicians, designers and more,” reads a statement from the board. “Ultimately, we want to create something that everyone can be a part of and truly be proud of.”
