Democracy needs newspapers
Re: Yes, Canada must act to save media, Opinion, May 6 As Jerry Dias and others have indicated, newspapers are threatened by internet giants using news content and scooping up ad revenues due to news organizations.
Sadly, it’s meant fiscal impoverishment and shutdowns. And looming totalitarianism, political-economic control. Mind and lives run by some remote voice in the clouds called the internet.
“A good newspaper, I suppose, is a nation talking to itself,” said playwright Arthur Miller. We need the free press delivered to the door or newsstand as part of our vibrant democracy. Let’s keep the real news alive!
