Kenney reckless in downplaying virus

-

Re: Protect the aged, Kenney says, but we must move on; Premier notes truthfully, if cold-bloodedly, that pandemic targets mainly seniors, Opinion, May 28

Jason Kenney’s comments are not only disturbing but reckless. COVID-19 is referred to as an “influenza of this nature.” This is not only false but downplays the deadly nature of this virus in the same way that Donald Trump has downplayed it.

While it is true, as Kenney says, that this virus is most fatal for those over 60 and those who are immunocompromised, the latter is a significant factor for many young people. Comments such as these are reckless and suggest people should not be overly concerned and can go back to their normal lives, ignoring public health directives.

While a vibrant economy is critical to all Albertans, we need a premier who values the health of every single Albertan above all else. Albert Herscovitch, Calgary
