UNION CALLS ON PROVINCE TO TAKE OVER CARE HOME

A health-care union is calling on the Ontario government to take over a Toronto-area long-term care home after 18 residents battling COVID-19 were sent to hospital Saturday night. SEIU Healthcare, the union representing front-line workers at Woodbridge Vista Care Community, said members have reported “serious concerns” at the York Region home, which is operated by Sienna. Provincial data shows 80 residents and 20 staff have tested positive for the coronavirus and a dozen have died at the home.
