$5M TO FUND TRAINING FOR TOKYO

-

As Canadian high-performance athletes return to training, the path will be paved in part by a $5-million investment from the Canadian Olympic Committee, Canadian Paralympic Committee and Own the Podium. The three organizations have repurposed existing program funds and will distribute them to national sport organizations, institutes, athletes and coaches as they return to training, even as the pandemic lingers. “Those are the four main buckets but we’re going to listen very carefully to the return to sport task force as to how we should invest it to make sure that we get the most bang for the buck,” said David Shoemaker, pictured, CEO of the COC. The task force produced a 17-page document that provides a framework for sports organizations, athletes, coaches and facilities to return to training in a manner that safeguards public health.
