Let’s not rush to judgment on all private long-term care

-

I am far from an expert on long-term seniors care but I did tour a number of Edmonton facilities last year when given notice that our 92-year-old mother must leave the hospital for a more appropriate LTC level of service. It was the right move by AHS, we just didn’t have much time to prioritize our choices.

We quickly arranged for a tour of five facilities and I must say the range in quality was astounding. Everything from new, clean and modern to adequate with dedicated well-intentioned professionals to one facility that I would not allow my dog to stay in. If I can identify the differences, why can’t a competent inspection system do the same?

Realizing it is a small sample size, the private care providers were easily our first picks and our experience since has reinforced that decision.
