City hall needs to cut costs, not raise taxes on homeowners

-

I am disgusted with our property tax rate increase. The city portion increased by 13.5 per cent while the provincial portion increased by 12.3 per cent. Although our assessed value has decreased, our total bill went up by 10 per cent. This is unconscionable.

Business owners cried over tax increases they received over the last few years. The City responded by reducing their tax bill and dumping the difference onto homeowners. Has city council considered significantly cutting costs?

On top of this, homeowners may soon be asked to pay a ridiculous amount for putting our LRT over/under the Bow River. Every gargantuan project dreamed up by this council has to be repaid by Calgarians. Until you get your house in order and lower costs, lay off the property taxpayer.
