Size of property tax hike is alarming
We have recently arrived from North Vancouver, so Licia’s Corbella’s critique of the City of Calgary’s penchant for (high) property taxes this year is alarming.
In these recessionary times with some residents on fixed or declining incomes and with property values static, the size of this tax increase is huge!
Our tax increase for our duplex unit is an astonishing 20.5 per cent. In Vancouver, there is an eight per cent increase, but Vancouver’s taxes are lower than Calgary’s and, unlike Calgary, recycling and water are included. In North Vancouver, the 2020 tax increase is two per cent. Calgary’s property tax culture would seem to warrant serious reflection.
