NO ANCIENT DIRT UNDER THE FINGERNAILS

-

Archeologists could soon “uncover” entire lost ancient cities without lifting a shovel, after a large Roman settlement was mapped from above ground. Using quad bikes towing ground-penetrating-radar equipment over more than 30 hectares and taking readings every 12.5 cm, Cambridge scientists revealed an “astonishing level of detail,” including a bath complex, market and temple under Falerii Novi, a walled city 50 km from Rome, occupied from 241 BC to AD 700.
