Re: Indigenous chief alleges RCMP officers beat him during arrest, June 8

I have read the articles about the arrest and assault of Chief Allan Adam of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation whose car registration had expired.

I, as a white, senior woman, had an entirely different experience when I was stopped by an RCMP officer in 2018, the year the province no longer sent out reminders.

He politely told me I was driving an unregistered car, and waited while I checked to see if he was right. He then told me I must drive directly to the registry office in my small town and get the car registered. He then apologized because he had to give me a ticket and explained that I could appeal it in court if I wished.

This is a world away from Chief Adam’s experience and that is absolutely wrong. There certainly seem to be different rules for different people and this should not happen in a democracy.
