LPGA officials cancel Evian Championship
The 2020 Evian Championship will not be played, the LPGA announced Tuesday.
The LPGA said that because of the ongoing travel and border restrictions, combined with government quarantine requirements as part of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tour and tournament organizers ruled the event couldn’t take place as scheduled for Aug. 6-9.
The event will return in 2021 at Evian Resort Golf Club in Evianles-bains, France.
“It is disappointing to miss a major championship but Evian’s strong history of showcasing the best female golfers will continue once again when we return in 2021.” LPGA commissioner Mike Whan said.
The current LPGA Tour schedule calls for a return at the Marathon Classic in Ohio, July 23-26. Due to cancellations, the next event on the schedule is the Ladies Scottish Open, Aug. 13-16.
