Police are searching for the body of a Calgary man reported missing earlier this week who is now thought to have been killed.

Police said family members reported Shane Eric James Smith, 20, missing on Sunday. He was last seen in the southeast community of Mckenzie Towne the previous day.

Calgary Police Service homicide investigators now believe Smith was murdered at a residence in southeast Calgary sometime late on Saturday evening.

They also believe that Smith’s vehicle, a gold 2002 Nissan Maxima, was driven and parked near the bridge over the Bow River on Deerfoot Trail S.E. near the south border of the city sometime between 11 p.m. on Saturday and the morning of Tuesday.

Anyone who drove over the bridge between those times and has dash cam footage available, or anyone who saw or spoke with Smith before his disappearance, is asked to contact police at 403266-1234 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Police said no further information could be released because the investigation is ongoing and in early stages.
