Costs keep rising on Green Line

Re: Councillors raise questions about Green Line cost; ‘It’s very clear that these members of council want to kill ‘the project: Nenshi,

City administration’s handling of the Green Line reminds me of shopping for a vehicle. The customer finds what he/she likes and then begins negotiating a “final” price, which becomes very different from the original sticker price. All of a sudden, the customer is faced with additional charges for rustproofing, a security system, an extended warranty, etc.

I believe the manager of the Green Line project, chair of city council’s transportation committee, the mayor and the rest of city council knew of the additional $600 million in financing costs that would be needed before the last public meeting was held on this project. They didn’t want to share that information with Calgarians for fear of a backlash. The disdain that Calgary council and administration have for the taxpayer is unbelievable.
