2021 Santa Fe walks on the wild side

- ALEX REID Driving.ca

The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe dropped the covers early June, and there’s a lot more to see in this model than previous generations.

When Hyundai first teased the Santa Fe’s wild looks, we thought some wires were crossed somewhere. How could they put such an aggressive-looking esthetic on a mainstream SUV? Well, this is how.

A large front grille is flanked with quad headlights, split down the middle by the T-shaped daytime running lights. Around the back, the tail lights continue the same T-shaped style, and also extend across the entire rear of the vehicle. The wheels’ arches have been made larger to fit the 20-inch wheels.

The interior is restyled as well, and now looks much more mature thanks to a two-tone colour scheme and upgraded tech. A 12.3inch digital instrument cluster tells the driver everything they need to see, while a 10.25-inch touch-screen infotainment system does everything else.

The Santa Fe sits atop the same N3 platform as the latest Sonata, so we’re hoping that means we’ll see the hybrid version here as well.

Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option. All-wheel-drive models will also receive Terrain mode, which uses a centre console-mounted dial to select the proper drive mode for the conditions.
