WHISTLEBLOWER DOCTOR’S WIDOW GIVES BIRTH TO SON
The widow of Li Wenliang, the Chinese doctor who first sounded the alarm about a potential virus outbreak, has given birth to a son four months after her husband’s death from the coronavirus. Li, pictured, died in February.
He first alerted authorities to the disease in December 2019, and was initially ignored by the Chinese government, which played down the threat of the virus. His wife, Fu Xuejie, shared an image of her new son on Chinese social media. “Husband, can you see this from heaven? You have given me your final gift today.” Beijing has formally apologized to Li’s family and labelled him a martyr, which makes any public criticism of him a criminal offence.
