LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Finding a silver lining in the storm

Re: ‘Apocalyptic’ storm leaves trail of wreckage with hail, winds, June 15

I have the greatest empathy with all those folks who suffered such destruction at the hands of Mother Nature.

I live in Carstairs and in August 2009 we had a very similar storm rip through our beautiful community. The damage was terrible.

What to do? You stare in shock at the siding shattered and strewn all over the lawn. At the smashed windows. The stripped roofs with shingles blown everywhere. The car that looks like someone attacked it with a hammer. Then you just slump down and cry. And then what? Start to clean up. But take a lot of pictures for the insurance adjuster.

But remember folks, it’s only stuff that got damaged. You, your neighbours, your friends are still here, still healthy, still able to work and recover. Stuff can be fixed, replaced, repaired. Human life and love and caring cannot. Gary S. Huyck, Carstairs
