EDMONTON Thirty-five new cases of COVID-19 were identified in Alberta Tuesday, bringing the number of active cases to 449. No new deaths were reported.

There have been 6,882 recoveries in the province while 151 people have died from COVID -19. The total number of active cases increased by nine on Tuesday, up from 440 the previous day when accounting for all factors, such as recoveries.

The Edmonton zone continues to see the largest increase with the total jumping to 190 active cases, up from 175 on Monday. The capital region has had 529 recoveries, three more than on Monday, while 13 people in the zone have died from COVID-19.

The Calgary zone continues to have the most active cases in the province with 208 and in-recovered cases with 4,786.

However, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, said on Monday Edmonton has been closing the gap between the province’s two largest cities since the beginning of June.

“We need to continue being cautious and protecting each other,” said Hinshaw at her Monday update.

“I don’t think that this is entirely due to relaunch. I think it’s due partly to people really just needing to have social interaction and unfortunately, sometimes forgetting that need to be cautious during that social interaction.”

The north zone currently has 26 active cases and 226 recovered cases, while the south zone has 23 active cases and 1,244 recoveries. Central Alberta has had the lowest number of cases with two active and 85 recoveries.
