GOING APE FOR A GREAT CAUSE

- Melissa Hank

German gin brand Monkey 47 is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Schwarzwald Dry Gin by releasing special-edition bottles that will raise money for the world’s most endangered primates.

The empty bottles come in six versions, reports Food in Canada magazine, and each will depict an endangered primate in place of the brand’s distinctive monkey. The primates are Milton’s titi, Roloway monkey, western gorilla, Bornean orangutan, golden lion tamarin and proboscis monkey.

“We admit it’s an unconventional concept,” said Aoife O’reilly, Monkey 47’s brand manager in Canada for Corby Spirit and Wine. “It’s sad to sell an empty bottle, but the premise behind it is anything but.”

The bottles are available at monkeykiosk.com for roughly $38 and can be shipped worldwide.
