PREACHING PATIENCE

- Danny Austin

Like everyone else around the CFL, Bo Levi Mitchell would love to know sooner rather than later whether there is going to be a 2020 season. The Calgary Stampeders quarterback knows he’s got to stay patient, though.

“I’m a little bit frustrated because obviously, I want answers, but I have the wherewithal to understand maybe the guys upstairs don’t have the answers yet,” Mitchell said. “As soon as you put a timeline on it, you’re doing exactly that. You’re putting a deadline on when you have to make a decision. If we say ‘Give us an answer by July

15’ and then things aren’t going the way we want them to, now we have to cancel the season just because we put a deadline on it.”

The CFL season won’t start until September at the very earliest, and tensions between the CFL and the CFL Players Association seem to be rising in recent weeks. Mitchell remains hopeful that players can get back to playing the game they love later this year.

“I want to have a season. I don’t want to sit at home and not play football,” Mitchell said.

“I want to be safe, I want to make sure the protocols are in place and I know the CFL is trying to get that done. I want the CFL and CFLPA to work together, instead of in (conflict) and get something done.”
