Kenney backing wrong candidate

-

Re: “Kenney supports panel’s blueprint for fair deal,” June 18

Premier Jason Kenney objects to the current system of equalization and, in particular, the amount of payments that go to Quebec.

And yet he has endorsed a federal Conservative leadership candidate whose platform promises to keep federal transfers flowing to Quebec.

Erin O’toole also says he will ensure Quebec’s weighting in the House of Commons never goes down.

Let that sink in.

Kenney’s pick for the Conservative leadership is promising to keep Alberta’s (and Canada’s) money flowing to La Belle Province and to somehow maintain Quebec’s representation in the House of Commons regardless of that province’s future population.

Canadians are faced with the reality that we live in a confederation where one province is far more “equal” than the others. Where generation after generation of federal politicians will sell out the rest of the country to curry favour with Quebec voters.

O’toole has pledged to keep that gravy train running, and he has Kenney’s blessing.
