ACHIEVING IMMIGRATION QUOTA ‘DOUBTFUL’
It’s “doubtful” Canada will reach its immigration quota for 2020, the House of Commons immigration committee heard this week.
The Deputy Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship said it’s unlikely the country will meet its earlier plan to admit a near-record 341,000 people this year.
“We’ll have a better update in the fall,” Catrina Tapley said.
“I think it’s safe to say it is doubtful we are going to meet 341,000.”
Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino, pictured, had proposed to raise quotas to 341,000 this year and 351,000 in 2021.
