A four-year-old child was found dead Sunday near Woolford Provincial Park in Cardston County, following an overnight search after the child went missing.

Cardston RCMP responded to a report that a young child had gone missing at the provincial park at approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday. A search was conducted overnight by RCMP, Lethbridge Search and Rescue, RCMP Police Dog Services, Air Services and a group of volunteers.

On Sunday morning, at around 11:30 a.m., RCMP received information from a local about the missing child and boat operators located the four-year-old’s body on a sandbar of the St. Mary River. RCMP said the child drowned and was found a few kilometres downstream from Woolford Park.

RCMP will not be releasing the name of the child and no foul play is suspected.
