Banff Centre layoffs a blow to culture

-

On June 10, the Banff Centre announced that, due to the economic consequences of COVID-19, it would be permanently laying off 284 employees.

This announcement has touched many artists who have attended the premier arts institution.

Banff Centre is not only an Alberta post-secondary arts institution, but a nationally acclaimed development centre for professional and emerging artists from around the globe. Culture is an important commodity that not only raises the profile of Canadian artists but also contributes to the national economy.

It is hoped that the layoffs can be reversed and that Banff Centre continues to flourish for Canada’s diverse artists.
