Toddler hurt in hit and run expected to recover
A toddler is recovering in hospital after being the victim of a hit and run in the city’s southeast Monday.
At around 10:30 a.m., police say a 17-month-old girl was struck by a vehicle while playing out front of her home in a cul-de-sac in the Deer Ridge neighbourhood.
Police are asking anyone who might have seen a dark-coloured or green SUV entering or leaving the area to contact them.
“At this point we are appealing to the public to contact traffic section if they noticed any vehicles leaving the area, driving suspiciously or erratically,” Sgt. Steve Campbell with the Calgary Police traffic section said from the scene, adding the driver might have been unaware of hitting the child.
EMS confirmed they transported the girl to the Alberta Children’s Hospital where she is receiving care.
Monday evening, police provided an update to Postmedia that the young girl is expected to make a full recovery after she undergoes reconstructive surgery.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service Traffic Reconstruction Unit at 403-4284000.
