Man attempts to clear co-accused

-

In a possible bid to be the fall guy for his female co-accused, a Calgary murder suspect on Monday tried to clear her on unrelated charges.

Lyle Robert Walter Vance appeared in provincial court via closed-circuit TV from the Calgary Remand Centre on two separate charging informations, one of which involves a charge of second-degree murder. The second set of allegations involves drugs and weapons offences with co-accused Dominique Barr. Vance told Judge Gord Wong he wished to comment on those charges. “The co-accused on that matter is not responsible for any of those charges,” Vance said, before Wong interjected. “You should talk to your counsel about those matters rather than making statements in open court,” the judge said. Those allegations involve 26 charges, including possession of a drug for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm. Vance was arrested last month in connection with the March 30 shooting death of Aaron Elliot Castle. Lawyer Gillian Shiskin, appearing as agent for Vance’s lawyer, Andrew Phypers, asked the case be adjourned three weeks so counsel could speak to the Crown about a potential resolution to some matters.
