Hiker dies in fall on Mount Fable near Canmore
A woman in her 40s has been found dead in the Rockies after being separated from her hiking group and taking a major fall from Mount Fable.
Trina Ramanaden, from Calgary, was hiking with a group of fellow hikers when she reportedly left her group to explore a cave at Mount Fable around 1 p.m. Sunday. When the group hadn’t seen or heard from her by 8:30 p.m., they called Kananaskis Country Public Safety to the mountain east of Canmore.
Rescue helicopters were deployed. Ramanaden’s body was spotted from the air on the southeast ridge of the mountain. Officials with Kananaskis Country Public Safety said it appears she had a major fall.
Atash Shiyarwala, an organizer of a local hiking club in Calgary, said Ramanaden was one of the most adventurous and cheerful people he knew. They had met about three years ago during a hike and had been good friends since.
“She was a good person, so full of energy. She was just a really happy person, too,” Shiyarwala said over the phone Tuesday.
Ramanaden enjoyed taking pictures during her hikes to keep a record of the memories made and sights seen, Shiyarwala said.
Her death is heartbreaking for
Calgary’s hiking community, he said. Shiyarwala intends to host a memorial hike in several weeks to honour and celebrate Ramanaden’s life.
