Canadian Finals Rodeo postponed
The Canadian Professional Rodeo Association has called off the 47th annual Canadian Finals Rodeo until at least next year. The event was set to take place at Red Deer’s Westerner Park from Nov. 3 to 8. In a news release, the association said the decision was made due to the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 health guidelines and the cancellation of many qualifying events. The event was expected to bring in 43,000 attendees and generate $37 million for the local economy. “The health, safety and protection of our athletes, animals and guests is always our top priority,” said Jeff Robson, general manager of CPRA. “During these uncertain times, and considering the pandemic, economic instability and reality of the extensive preparation that goes into a successful rodeo, we know it is the right decision to postpone this year’s event.”
