King Eddy is back in business

-

Calgary’s venerable music king is ready to don his crown again.

The King Eddy will reopen July 1 from 12 to 8 p.m., after months of closure due to the pandemic. Two musicians will take to the stage at times throughout the day and will play instrumental music.

Closed since March 17, the landmark blues bar beside and part of the National Music Centre will operate at a reduced capacity with extra safety measures in place such as mandatory masks for staff, stringent cleaning protocols, hand sanitizers at entry and reconfigured tables to allow for more space.

“It’s going to be a slow and gradual road to get back to where we were before the pandemic, but we are confident that we’ll get there,” said restaurant manager Kutay Baykal.

“We’re delighted to welcome guests back to enjoy an updated menu with some new comfort-food classics. We’ll also have live music offerings on Canada Day, although we’re still working on a plan to program regular live music in the early days of reopening.”

As of July 2, the King Eddy will be open for dining in from Wednesdays through Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Takeout and delivery runs Wednesday through Saturday at kingeddy.ca

Founded as The King Edward Hotel in 1905, the King Eddy earned a well-deserved reputation over the years as ‘Calgary’s Home of the Blues’ and attracted legends such as BB King, Buddy Guy and John Hammond.
