Negotiating with China tricky
Re: Exchange Meng and play hardball, Opinion, June 24
It would be fantastic to get the two Michaels back from China’s “arbitrary detention” — it’s already been too long. China can say what it wants about its crimes, but the only way for us to get our people back is a prisoner swap.
Now the downside. China will now know how to successfully influence and control Canada and obviously will be of no help in the punishing sanctions Trump will impose on Canada for letting Meng go. We would also have to endure his childish, insulting and name-calling tweets.
I have little doubt that Trump himself would use Meng as a bargaining chip for his own purposes.
