Respect goes both ways when it comes to bargaining process
Re: Health-care staff return to work after `illegal strike', Oct. 26
I just read that Finance Minister Travis Toews said that “Going forward, we expect that all unions respect the bargaining process and stop putting Albertans' safety at risk.”
Does this government not have the same expectation of itself? Did the UCP government respect the bargaining process when it tore up the contractual agreement between doctors and the government? Has there not been continued strife since? Was it not the UCP government who very early on in its term decided without consulting the ATA that it unilaterally turn the management of pension monies over to AIMCO?
As an Albertan, a citizen in this province and country, I can certainly tell you that I expect governments as well as unions to respect the bargaining process and for all to engage in fair and respectful dialogues. I have yet to witness this with the current government.
