JERUSALEM-BORN AMERICAN'S PASSPORT BREAKS GROUND

-

The United States on Friday issued for the first time a passport to a Jerusalem-born American with Israel listed as the birthplace instead of the city. U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman presented the document to 18-year-old Menachem Zivotofsky after a change of policy by President Donald Trump. The status of Jerusalem, which contains sites holy to Muslims, Jews and Christians, is a contentious issue between Israelis and Palestinians, both of whom claim the city as their capital.
