Craig Anderson has a chance to switch capital cities.

The former Ottawa Senators goaltender, an unrestricted free agent, has been invited to the Washington Capitals training camp on a professional tryout.

The Capitals went looking for help in net after they learned former New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist won't play this season because of a heart issue. The 39-year-old Anderson had a 11-17-2 record with a .902 save-percentage and a 3.25 goals-against average with Ottawa last season.

Anderson, who turns 40 in May, has a career 289-251-69 record with 42 shutouts with the Chicago Blackhawks (2002-06), Florida Panthers (2006-09), Colorado Avalanche (2009-11) and the Senators.

In 40 Stanley Cup playoff games with the Senators, he was 21-18 with a 2.30 GAA, .928 save percentage and three shutouts.

In 2017, the Senators lost in the Eastern Conference finals to the Pittsburgh Penguins in seven games.

An Illinois native, Anderson was a third-round selection of the Blackhawks in the 2001 NHL Draft.

Under a professional tryout agreement, unsigned veterans can earn contracts with NHL teams by impressing enough during training camp and the pre-season.

With Braden Holtby signing with the Vancouver Canucks during free agency, Ilya Samsonov (22-16-6 in 2019-20) is the only returning goaltender on the Capitals' 2020-21 roster.

Acquired from the Avalanche in February of 2011 in exchange for Brian Elliott, nobody ever envisioned Anderson would be in the net this long. He leaves behind a strong legacy in Ottawa as the franchise leader in goalie victories with 202.

He picked up his 200th career win on Feb. 18 with 23 saves in a 7-4 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

FORWARD GRABNER MULLS RETIREMENT

Veteran forward Michael Grabner will wait until the start of the NHL season before deciding whether to continue his career — and, if so, which team to join — according to a report from the Arizona Republic.

The 33-year-old Grabner tallied eight goals and three assists in 46 games with Arizona last season.

Arizona bought out his contract in October, which made him an unrestricted free agent.

Grabner has scored 175 goals in 11 seasons, which has included stints with Vancouver, the New York Islanders and Rangers, Toronto, New Jersey and the Coyotes.
