Bluegrass star Rice dies at 69

-

Bluegrass guitarist Tony Rice died at age 69 on Christmas Day. Ricky Skaggs, Steve Martin and The Oak Ridge Boys all paid tribute to him online. Rice left the spotlight in 2013 due to a muscle disorder that destroyed his singing voice and tennis elbow, which limited his playing. He played publicly for the last time that year when he was inducted to International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. Rice was a solo artist as well as a member of the David Grisman Quintet and The Tony Rice Unit. He earned a Grammy in 1993.
