Wonder Woman off to strong start
The Wonder Woman sequel has set global records for COVID-ERA films. Wonder Woman 1984, from director Patty Jenkins, has made $85 million from its Christmas week release, smashing records set by Tenet earlier this year.
The film opened in the U.S. with $16.7 million at theatres. Many also opted to watch the film through HBO Max in the U.S. — the studio said nearly half of the platform's subscribers watched the film on Friday. As a result, a third Wonder Woman film is in the works, with Jenkins and star Gal Gadot set to return.
