Restrictions are for the public benefit

Although I support the rights of citizens in a democratic society to protest for freedoms and rights and causes they believe in, the public safety restrictions impact all of us, not just those who object to COVID restrictions, which include social distancing and wearing of masks. The anti-maskers, while protesting, violate both these “small points.”

These restrictions are to protect us all, not to repress the freedom of a segment of some of our fellow citizens. Does this same group buy into smoking bylaws and traffic laws?

Would they protest against drunk driving laws? Just wondering!

If anyone would lip off and attempt to impede police from performing their duties at a checkstop, guaranteed they would spend the night in jail and pay a hefty fine. Martin Miller, Calgary
