Stamps' secondary has some Moxey going for it

Jonathan Moxey may not be a name that is familiar to every Calgary Stampeders fan.

That could change in 2021. On Tuesday, the Stamps announced they'd re-signed Moxey and that he'll be back in Red & White in 2021.

It's the second signing of a defensive back in as many days for the Stampeders, who announced Monday they'd be bringing back Raheem Wilson as well.

Moxey may not be a famous name that casual fans will recognize, but he could be an important piece of a Stamps defensive backfield that lost Tre Roberson and Dashaun Amos to the NFL and Brandon Smith to retirement.

That means there are jobs available, and Moxey's time with the organization in 2019 should give him a head start on any new names the team brings in before training camp.

After joining the Stamps in late June of 2019, Moxey spent most of the year on the practice roster but did make his debut in Week 7 against the Ottawa Redblacks and appeared in four games before suffering a season-ending injury in Week 15. He was mostly used as a halfback.

The Boise State product has previously spent time on the practice squads for both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals.
