ASIAN MEATBALLS
Makes: 5 dozen
■ 1 1/2 lb (680 g) lean ground beef
■ 3/4 cup (180 ml) fresh bread crumbs
■ 1 large egg, lightly beaten
■ 2 cloves garlic, crushed
■ 1 tsp (5 ml) grated fresh ginger
■ 1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt
■ Dash hot pepper sauce
■ Sweet and sour sauce (recipe follows)
■ 1 green onion, diagonally sliced
1. Preheat oven to 375 F (190 C).
2. Combine lean ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, garlic, ginger, salt and hot pepper sauce until well blended. Shape mixture into small balls. Place meatballs on a rack in a shallow pan.
3. Bake until completely cooked, about 35-40 minutes. Cooked meatballs may be frozen for up to one month.
4. Combine hot meatballs with sweet and sour sauce. Garnish with green onion.
