Man charged over replica firearms
Lethbridge police have laid several weapons and assault charges against a man accused of pointing two replica pellet handguns at officers. The officers had been called to a home on the west side of the city on Tuesday for reports of a disturbance. Officers were speaking with the occupants of the house when a man came out of a nearby room.
According to Lethbridge police, the man was armed with two pistols and pointed them at the officers.
“The man was one of the people involved in the disturbance and wasn't present when officers went into the home,” said Staff Sgt. Ryan Stef. “When he appeared, he instantly pulled the guns out and pointed them at officers.”
The guns turned out to be pellet guns. Stef said Lethbridge officers were able to successfully disarm the man without injury to anyone involved. Trent Brandon Oka faces several charges. He was released after a hearing and his court date is scheduled for Jan. 29, 2021.
