An irrational fear of COVID-19
Although my wife and I do our best to comply with public health orders, if not by letter at least in spirit, we are firmly of the opinion that the approach of governments across Canada to combat COVID-19 is ill-informed at best and reckless at worst.
Our society has been conditioned to irrationally fear the “deadly” COVID-19 virus. Society's irrational fear of the virus grants governments social licence to impose severe and mostly unnecessary restrictions on a citizen's ability to work, associate with others, and travel. Continuing lockdowns while tossing money freely about is not, and never was a credible plan to fight COVID-19.
My message is this: live responsibly, outside the shadow of fear, be kind to one another and respectfully challenge our elected officials and other leaders to do better for all in the face of COVID. Chris Scrupa, Calgary
