Mrs. Lougheed cherished the arts

-

Re: `Quiet leadership' in the arts influenced `Alberta's Camelot', Dec. 29

I was sorry to read about the passing of Jeanne Lougheed. My first professional job was in Lethbridge, starting in October 1971 shortly after Peter Lougheed became premier. The most noticeable phrase in the article was: “consistently reminding him (Peter) that leading the province wasn't only about the economy.” Perhaps a reminder to the premier of today? The arts have had a terrible 2020! This reminder should make us aware the arts make not only a significant economic contribution but also contribute to the soul of society and its creativity. Cities and areas with a strong arts component perform better economically.

Mrs. Lougheed's awareness of people with disabilities is also a reminder that we are all citizens making contributions.
