Grey Eagle plans event centre

Responding to the year-long pandemic that closed down most indoor event facilities, a new drive-in is opening to host concerts, graduations, theatre and other live performances.

The Grey Eagle Drive-in will open May 1 on the west side of the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino, off Glenmore Trail and Strathcona Street S.W.

The facility can hold 206 vehicles and will have livestreaming capabilities, mobile food and beverage service, as well as a semi-trailer covered stage with surround sound available through a vehicle's FM radio. Event attendees also can book into the hotel and watch drive-in shows from rooms that overlook the site.

“Three large LED screens will project the action on stage under the stars and with the Rocky Mountains as the backdrop,” said Lisa Mccann, producer at The Event Group, which is partnering with Grey Eagle, Tsuut'ina Nation, and Supervisions Ltd. in the venture.

One screen will be on the stage while two additional screens will be placed farther back so guests parked near the back also have a close-up view.

“We are super-excited to carry on the reputation rolling into this spring with our new Grey Eagle Drive-in, showcasing an incredible outdoor live event experience,” said Kevin Yates, general manager of the Hotel & Event Centre at Grey Eagle Resort and Casino. “Guests have an opportunity to eat, play, stay and enjoy a variety of entertainment, in support of charities on the beautiful Tsuut'ina Nation.”

Mccann said the Grey Eagle Drive-in will follow all health and safety guidelines with staggered parking about two metres apart. It is now available to book for special events, with the live concert lineup to be announced soon. For live event information and private bookings, visit www.greyeagledrivein.com.
