Harding's has grown far beyond painting in its 25 years of business

- GERALD VANDER PYL

During the past 25 years, Harding's — Your Improvement Company has grown from a painting company to a one-stop shop for all types of home services.

From that perfect painting job to handyman services, epoxy floor coatings, ceiling texturing, renovation services and more, Harding's is there when individuals or commercial clients need a job done right.

Rob Hilditch, Harding's president and managing partner, says the company has stayed true to the philosophy of its founder Dalton Harding, who started a painting business out of his garage in Midnapore in 1996.

“He was just a good, honest type of guy who was going out and providing great customer service,” says Hilditch.

As the company grew, it brought on licensees with a similar mindset to add more professional services for its customers, says Hilditch. Along the way, everyone has worked to maintain the exceptional customer service that Harding's is known for.

“Things that are supposed to happen for customers, just happen,” sums up Hilditch.

When the original Harding's Painting eventually became Harding's — Your Improvement Company, Hilditch says that reflected its comprehensive lineup of services for homeowners, commercial clients and even

rental and condominium managers.

“We still, at our core, are a painting company, and will always be a painting company,”

says Hilditch, but with its many other divisions, it has literally become a one-stop shop that allows a customer to arrange everything they

might need for a project with a single phone call.

That can include a renovation, then painting, epoxy floor coating or ceiling texturing — followed by any necessary clean up. Harding's also offers decorating services, home organizing and professional home staging.

“It's super simple, it's one contact. You're not dealing with five or six different people,” says Hilditch.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Harding's has launched the Ditch the DIY Disaster contest for anyone who has had a do-it-yourself project take a wrong turn.

Hilditch says people can submit photos of their disaster for a chance to win $2,500 to put toward Harding's services to fix the job. Also included with

the prize are gift cards for Browns Social House, donated by supply partner Sherwin-williams.

Another Harding's tradition that has carried on through the past 25 years is community involvement. Hilditch says when the pandemic started in March 2020 and business dropped off, the company launched a series of food drives that collected donations for those in need.

“The response that we got was overwhelming, not just emotionally, but driving around the city picking up food. I think I put 6,000 kilometres on my truck,” he recalls.
