Stylish hair accessories for spring

-

If there is anything we have learned from working from home, it's the power of a great top and above-the-shoulders accessories to help lift your look on all those Google Meets and Zooms. We already have plenty of colourful earrings, so are now working on our collection of hair accessories. From fun scrunchies to sophisticated slides, Rebecca Tay presents five stylish ways to upgrade your 'do.

PEARL OF WISDOM

If you don't know the name Lele Sadoughi, you definitely know her work. Originally from Dallas and now based in New York, she designed for everyone from Banana Republic to Anthropologie before launching the first jewelry collection for J.crew in 2006 and then heading up the category at Tory Burch. For her eponymous label, which launched in 2012, she works with colour and texture to create playful, statement pieces. Case in point: this ivory pearl-beaded headband, which would add elegance to any ensemble — or make a perfect bridal accessory if you happen to be planning your trip down the aisle.

WHAT'S YOUR HUE?

Local gal Miriam Alden Schmidt has built a pretty impressive fashion empire, first starting Brunette as a showroom for cool brands before expanding it into Brunette the Label, a line of sweatshirts and tees that declare your hair colour — natural or otherwise — to the world. We're a fan of these rhinestone hair slides, which also come in brunette, blond, redhead, the zodiac signs, or, quite simply, “Babe.”

SOPHISTICATED SWEEP

We've all had those mornings when you're lying in bed, scrolling through your feed when you get an alarm saying your next meeting is starting in 10 minutes. Panic! This textured chain headband was made for those moments — just sweep your hair back with this miracle accessory and you are pretty much good to go. If your hair is a little greasy, twist it into a low bun before slipping this on and no one will know the difference. Club Monaco, clubmonaco.ca | $39.50

CHIC CLIPS

A hair clip worn with a side-parted bob always reminds us of Margot Tenenbaum, that forever, if fictional, arbiter of style. They are also highly practical for keeping flyaways or not-quite-grown-out bangs at bay — especially great if lockdown has curtailed your trips to the salon.

BUDGET BUY

Organza is a fun and fanciful fabric at the best of times, even more so on a hair scrunchie. This two-pack by Rainbow Unicorn Birthday Surprise — best name ever — will add some major personality to your ponytail and is the ultimate mood lifter for both you and anyone you have a video call with.
